August 2008

Dear Tropos Friends,

Since the beginning of the year we have been experiencing renewed demand and interest from both new and existing customers in using Tropos’ metro-scale wireless broadband to benefit communities. In this newsletter I would like to turn your attention towards recent successes and highlight how these customers are benefiting with the ability to support enhanced and new applications.

The June announcement of Oklahoma City’s Tropos deployment was a significant highlight as the world’s largest municipal owned and operated wireless broadband mesh network was unveiled. This network is a shining example of new applications enabled for public safety (police and fire) and how demand is quickly growing for access by other city departments with mobile workers such as building inspectors and public works.

In addition to the press announcement and media coverage, Tropos was honored at Oklahoma City’s City Council Meeting on June 3, 2008, with the presentation of a Resolution by Mayor Mick Cornett.  The Resolution was voted upon and unanimously accepted by City Council Members.  Specifically, the Resolution recognizes Tropos “…for their contributions to the field of Wi-Fi technology and helping municipalities such as ours better address public safety concerns.”  On behalf of Tropos, I accepted the Resolution and share this honor with the Tropos team that contributed to the success in Oklahoma City.

One of the greatest advantages of a city-owned network infrastructure is that it allows the city leverage its investment in the network.  As additional departments securely utilize the network for AMR, ITS, etc., there are no recurring per user/device service costs.  In addition, coverage and capacity can be added over time as the cities requirements evolve providing the city’s IT with a high degree of control.

Tropos continues to be a pioneer in the metro wireless mesh market with its market leading products and partners.  We are actively working with communities, both large and small, to help communities build their future. Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to pave the way into the next generation of metro-scale broadband networks. As always, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions or suggestions about Tropos or would like to discuss any aspect of our business. You can reach me at tom.ayers@tropos.com.

Sincerely,

Tom Ayers
