SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

Tropos Networks has overcome many challenges of deploying wireless broadband networks on a large scale, making wide-area broadband coverage possible. The innovative Tropos System Architecture, developed from the ground up to address the unique challenges in and outdoor network environment, delivers the scalability, reliability, performance and security that customers need. Two network architectures – MetroMesh for Smart Cities and GridCom for the Smart Grid – are optimized to provide the right performance for the right applications.

The Tropos System Architecture is the market leading IP-based wide-area wireless broadband system architecture that can be cost-effectively used for one or many applications. The System Architecture is founded on open-standard IP networking and IEEE 802.11 radio communications. Built over these standards are robust mesh networking and physical-layer extensions to ensure the highest levels of radio performance in a wide range of outdoor environments.

The Tropos Mesh OS provides the routing intelligence for the Tropos System Architecture and is an integral part of each Tropos router.  It includes RF resource management algorithms such as dynamic channel selection, per-packet transmit power and data rate selection and adaptive noise immunity allow for resilient communications even in the presence of interference. Tropos Mesh OS’ multi-layer security model builds on open industry standards, including 802.11i and FIPS 140-2, to securely support mission-critical applications. Distributed mesh routing intelligence enables Tropos routers to make coordinated routing decisions in real time, maximizing bandwidth and system performance through a decentralized and highly resilient architecture.

Tropos Control provides advanced network management and analysis capabilities critical to scaling to deployments covering very large geographic areas.
